Typically a therapeutic massage does not include the full body. The work will be specific to the affected muscles and muscles relating to the area of concern.

An example would be: A client is experiencing low back pain, the muscle groups that would worked could include the the back muscles (obviously), the gluteal (buttocks) muscles, and even the stomach and leg muscles. Tension, trigger points and tender points in the surrounding muscles could be affecting the posture. When the body's posture is misaligned it pulls on other muscles (such as the low back) creating pain and discomfort. Although you feel the pain in one area, it is very probable that it is caused by something located in the opposing muscle groups. Think of a teeter-totter being held level by two bungee cords. One of the bungee cords becomes constricted (like a tight muscle). The tension in the constricted bungee cord pulls the teeter-totter down causing the other cord to stretch. Muscles do this in a similar fashion. They are attached to the skeletal system, when one muscle constricts (gets all knotted up) it pulls on the bones where it is attached. When this happens, it causes the opposing muscles to be stretched tight. Usually this is related to the brain as pain in the muscles that are being stretched tight. That muscle pain is not the cause, it is the result of another muscle being constricted. Therapeutic massage can correct these issues over time.

We offer 30 and 60 minute therapeutic massages. The 30 minute time is for those who may have woke up with a stiff neck or some other minor acute pain, and need some immediate relief. The 60 minute therapeutic massage is for those who have more of a chronic disorder; requiring more detailed work.

Rate: 30 minutes/ $45 | 1 hour/ $80

The benefits of a therapeutic massage can help relieve acute and chronic pain, muscle tension, and poor body alignment and posture.

It may not alleviate the pain completely, but anyone who has suffered with chronic pain can attest that "any relief is better than no relief." The misconception often associated with therapeutic massage is that one session will fix it. Often this is not the case because people who have chronic pain have had that pain for a long time. Your massage therapist can not fix, in one hour, what may have taken years to develop. You should see some immediate relief, but to gain lasting relief it may take several or continuous sessions. Therapeutic massage is a viable holistic alternative to pain relief with no unhealthy side effects. We strongly recommend that you consult with your physician before discontinuing any medications or treatments the physician has prescribed.

Therapeutic massage takes a commitment on both the client and the therapist. The client should do the "homework" given to him/ her by the therapist. This may involve such things as stretching, soaking in a bath, application of hot or cold packs, etc. The therapist must be kept informed of the clients changing conditions and work with a flexible plan to address the issues of the client.

No therapist should promise the complete relief of pain and we make no such promise. We will however work with you to bring as much pain relief as possible. Of course we always want to see the pain disappear, and are thrilled if we can reach that point. It will help loosen muscles and improve muscle tone. You will find a greater range of motion is achieved with this style of massage.

We undertand massage, especially therapeutic massage can be costly. We want to help you achieve better health and a better lifestyle; that is why we never recommend excessive treatments. Often a therapeutic massage can be coupled with a general relaxation massage. This is for the person who wants to reduce pain and relax at the same time. A portion of the massage will be spent on the areas of concern with enough time saved for a full body massage. Giving you the best of both worlds - pain relief and feeling great! Call our office today to schedule an appointment.
